Our charity relies on many hundreds of generous people who support When You Wish Upon A Star and we are grateful when a corporate partner, community group, school or individual choose us to raise funds to enable us to continue granting some very special Wishes.
We would like to say THANK YOU to all our supporters who have organised events for us whether they are taking us on as their charity of the year, attending our balls, climbing mountains, running marathons, celebrating special birthdays or anniversaries, holding coffee mornings or organising events at their school. It really does help and makes your donation important to us.
Below are some of our supporters who have generously given us their support.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Parkers “the parts people” who have been raising money for When You Wish Upon a Star to celebrate 90 years in business. With support from suppliers, friends and family they have raised in excess of £90,000, exceeding their target and helping us bring smiles to the faces of many more brave and courageous children.
To reach this target, they collected old brake discs and for each one, Parkers donated £1.50 to the charity. They also hosted a Dragon Boat Race in the summer and kindly sponsored The Great Leicester Santa Run 2014 in December. We have really enjoyed working with you over the last 12 months and your support has made a huge difference to the lives of the children and families we work with.
We have won £600 in a national competition organised by healthcare company Salts Medilink. We received votes in the Salts Medilink Family Fund competition and today Jen Hughes of the charity received the cheque from Lauren Wagstaffe from the Didsbury office Salts Medilink.
Salts Medilink is a family-owned, firm from Birmingham that distributes healthcare products throughout the UK and worldwide. It is headed by three Salts brothers who are tenth-generation members of the Salt family.
The company has twenty local offices throughout the UK and each of the branches nominated a charity as part of the Salts Medilink Family Fund. Then via social media, members of the public were asked to vote over a six month period. Adrian Priest, Senior Product Manager, Salts Medilink said: “This is the first year of the Salts Medilink Family Fund. We’ve been amazed how many votes have been cast showing that all the charities that were nominated, have a very special place in people’s hearts and I am delighted that ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ has been awarded this money by our Didsbury office.
When You Wish Upon A Star would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Salts Medilink and everyone that voted for our charity. Together your £600.00 donation will help us to grant a truly magical wish for a very sick child, whom you may never meet, but who will be forever grateful to you.

Mandy managed to run all the way, finishing in 4 hours and 24 minutes, she said “it was an amazing experience and I loved every second. The crowds were so supportive and their cheers really helped with the most inspirational people running alongside me. It was very emotional because you know why so many people are out there and putting themselves through the pain and you constantly have your reason for being there too. X”
Well done Mandy we are so proud of you. Nottingham Wish Team xxx

Hudson Wealth Management
We are delighted that Hudson
Wealth Management will be supporting the charity during 2014/15. Davy Hudson of Hudson Wealth Management said
“I am delighted to support the Nottingham-based charity, 'When You Wish Upon a Star'.
When my son was diagnosed with type one diabetes at the age of 13, he was devastated by the news. Having been a sporty active child he found it really challenging to come to terms with his diagnosis. As a family we were also struggling to cope as nobody we knew had previously suffered from this condition. Understanding the complexity of managing his sugars and insulin levels was a complex and a sometimes hit and miss affair. When You Wish Upon a Star contacted us to ask what they could do in order to provide support. They gave my son a state of the art laptop which enabled him to research his condition further as well as connect with both his friends and the wider Internet community. This unexpected act of kindness was both deeply moving and a highly practical way of supporting a teenage boy at the most difficult time of his life so far. I am now very pleased to have the opportunity of giving something back to this wonderful local charity”

Paul Dowie, from PPG said: "We are delighted to be partnering with When You Wish Upon A Star to help wishes come true for brave and courageous young children and their families.
"Whether the money we raise and donate goes towards a trip to Disney World or the chance to meet their favourite pop star, our partnership with When You Wish Upon A Star will help to put smiles on the faces of many young people - something which makes us very proud.”
"The fact that our staff played an integral role in choosing the charity is particularly important and we know everyone at PPG will take great pride in raising as much money as possible for When You Wish Upon a Star." Thank you to employees for voting for us to be your chosen charity and we look forward to working with you.

Team Abbie’s fundraising appeal for 2014
Mandy Sims from Hucknall, together with friends, family, neighbours and former colleagues, have embarked on a fundraising feat for ‘When You Wish Upon A Star. It was after the charity made her own daughter’s dream come true, after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged seven, that Mandy began helping the charity.
Once again they are to embark on another year of gruelling challenges in the hope of raising funding for our Lapland trip in December. Mandy is taking part in the London Marathon in April, and on Sunday 24th August, Abbie’s Team will be walking the Monsal Trail in the Peak District, starting at Bakewell ending in Buxton and then returning. And on 7th September Mandy will pull on her running shoes again to take part in the Great North Run dressed as a ‘star’ - the logo of ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’.
Abbie’s grandparents, Anne and Bob Tierney will also be donating money in lieu of gifts from a party they are holding to celebrate their 70th birthdays and their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
“Every year they have managed to not only reach but to exceed their target thanks to the amazing support and generosity of Hucknall people and other supporters,” “They would love to get that support again and if any businesses would like to sponsor or offer raffle prizes or adopt their cause, please get in touch.”
To support Mandy and her family please visit their just giving page www.justgiving.com/Abbiesteam2014. We want to wish Mandy and all her family good luck and a huge thank you for supporting our charity for the fourth year. East Midlands Wish Team xxx

SETA Engineering Apprentices Raise £1500 in Charity Hike!
SETA Training pulled on their hiking boots on and walked around Lyme Park to raise funds for charity on the 11th of October. Each year Stockport Engineering Training Association (SETA) gets active for its annual Sponsored Walk for charity - and for the second year running SETA is fundraising for ‘When you Wish Upon a Star’.
Over 50 apprentices and members of staff took part in the 5 mile hike which was hosted at Lyme Park, Disley. SETA raised over £1500 for the walk and will be hosting a ‘Santa Dash’ on the 13th of December in order to raise further funds to hit its 2013/14 fundraising target of £3000. SETA has a strong ethos of supporting the community and local charities. Each year SETA supports a local charity and organises fundraising events throughout the year to meet its fundraising target which it increases each year. “When you Wish Upon a Star” is a small charity that grants wishes for children with life threatening or terminal illness year. Annually the charity takes 100 children to meet Father Christmas in Lapland and SETA is aiming to raise £3000 in 2013/14 to send 4 children to Lapland to meet Father Christmas. SETA believe getting young people involved in the local community through fundraising is key in the enrichment and development of young people at SETA.
Quote from SETA Chief Executive Officer:“It was a well organised walk which gave the staff a chance to interact with the learners in a social environment, whilst allowing the learners to experience some of our heritage.”
“The learners all succeeded in completing the walk as well as doing a good job of raising funds for our nominated Charity, "When you Wish upon a Star", the funds raised will help us towards achieving our goal for this year of £3000.00, which will be enough to send four children to Lapland to see Santa.”
Comment from Chloe Feeney, SETA Apprentice, 17:“The day was really good fun and a chance to raise money for a good cause. I think we raised a lot for the walk and with fundraising events hosted throughout the year I think we will definitely hit out target of £3000.”
“I decided to get into engineering because I enjoy a challenge and am more practically minded. I am applied to SETA because they work with a range of engineering employers and there are lots of opportunities here. I am really enjoying my time here and glad I didn’t choose a career path that most girls seem to go down.”
Comment from James Massey, SETA Apprentice, 17:“I really enjoyed the day. I had never heard of “When you Wish upon a Star” so it made me and my sponsors aware of the charity.”
SETA is planning a Santa Dash for the charity to raise further funds for When you Wish upon a Star in order to hit its fundraising target! Apprentices will be getting on be training for this event for the next few weeks!
